Ever listen to Russian Club Rap with a hint of New Wave?

I ask because it’s not one clean genre, exactly. It crosses flavors like Russian language trap, phonk darkness, house/club beats, and anything else they want to throw at you – commonly featuring ice drenched synths, deadpan vocals, and an Eastern Euro decaying romance edge.

New wave in Russian and Eastern European alt scenes have been experimenting with genre mixing for years, combining post-punk with house and trap beats, alt rap with math rock, emo textures bleeding over into lo-fi.

Not a huge hit over here in the US, but maybe it should be.

Meet a Super Cool Trio: Наверное Поэт, Якоръ, & EVEN CUTE

Together, these geniuses have formed a creative collective out of independent record label, BAZA IMPERIAL, attempting a reshape of modern Russian party music. They have some chart climbing hits like “Да, Я Русскии” and “У Никитоса” that just aren’t something with great exposure over here in the west.

Наверное Поэт

Yaroslav Sergeev is a creative musical architect hailing from Kemerovo. He built his reputation on provocative underground rap before moving to Moscow, where he founded the Baza studio.

Якоръ

Vyacheslav Okatiev is a foundation of sonic music from Perm. Originating in unfiltered and aggressive schoolish trap beats, he melded this style with a more polished, yet hard-hitting electronic vibe, creating a unique electro vibe/trap bounce to the trio.

EVEN CUTE

Yulia Shishigina is also from Perm. She provides that angelical sweet, high pitched vocal edge to the trio’s projects. The melodic vocal hooks she brings contrasts the other two’s heavy rap, trap, and electronic flows.

This addictive high octane track has perhaps crossed your path on social media reels, like TikTok. However, I doubt you’ve randomly heard it streaming or broadcast on Sirius XM.

At only a minute and thirty seconds, this track is pure adrenaline, yet club banger that is guaranteed to sound fresh to western ears.

Hyper fast, pulsing electronic baselines infused with modern Phonk and Brazilian (yes?!) funk rhythms. Gives the boom.
